Julian Blumenthal (signs his work as “Julesb”), started painting for the first time in “later years”, under the tutorship of Julia Teale’s Spencer St Studio in Cape Town, where he chose to become proficient in oils. He is a versatile artist with his subject matter varying between portraits, landscapes/seascapes, wildlife and pet portraits. Julian recently relocated to Knysna where he is retired and painting full time. He has developed a style often described as “quirky, bold and unique”. Some recent works of the Knysna fires could be described as “abstract impressionist” in style. His ongoing “Clowns/Circus” series too is an original concept, more so in that some reference photos of the actual clowns, were personally sent to him from France.
