Artisan bread is best described by thinking about the person who makes the bread. An artisan baker is a craftsperson who is trained to mix, ferment, shape and bake a hand crafted loaf of bread.
True hand-crafted breads are made with four basic ingredients: wheat flour, water, salt and yeast. Sourdough is often used in place of the yeast and other flavourings. Herman particularly enjoys working with his hands to shape each bread, and to see the end result of this lengthy process.
